Auburn University’s Natural Resources & Management Institute is dedicated to the creation and promotion of traditional and innovative natural resource products and services, and to sustainable practices for the benefit of communities today and the well-being of generations to come.

Leading AU Natural Resources Management & Development Institute is Larry Fillmer, an AU alumnus with 35 years of experience in managing large, complex organizations.

Mr. Fillmer is a 1969 graduate of the AU College of Business with a degree in Business Administration; he also holds a master’s degree in Industrial Management from the University of Alabama. Fillmer joined the Auburn staff in 2005 as a development director for major gifts and corporate relations and had previously led the I-85 Corridor Alliance, an economic development effort for Alabama. Prior to that, Fillmer made his mark on the business world, working with several technology corporations.

Steven E. Taylor, professor and head of the AU Department of Biosystems Engineering, is serving as director of the Bioenergy and Bioproducts Center, bringing to the position a strong background in administrative leadership and natural resource-related engineering.

In June of 2008, Sam Fowler, formerly of the Alabama Coopera­tive Extension System, was  named director of the Water Resources Center in AU’s Natural Resources Man­agement & Development Institute.

Fowler, who has been at AU since 1982, was associate director for rural and traditional provisional programs in ACES.
